Marc Wetherhorn has over 30 years of political, organizing and advocacy leadership experience at the state and national levels. Marc established his firm to assist nonprofit organizations, trade associations, and businesses in creating the organizational culture, strategies and structures needed to win meaningful public policy victories.
Prior to starting Marc Wetherhorn Consulting, Marc served for 15 years as the National Advocacy Director and Senior Director of Advocacy and Civic Engagement for the National Association of Community Health Centers, one of the most effective and successful health care associations in the country.
Marc joined NACHC in 1999 and immediately began building a recruiting, training and support structure for a national network which today numbers over 70,000 grassroots health center advocates in all 50 states. He also initiated and managed NACHC’s Community Health Vote civic engagement program at health centers around the country. To enhance local advocacy, Marc also managed and developed an annual National Health Center Week celebration into a nationwide event which attracts the participation of elected officials from Congress to local governments and garners media coverage in hundreds of local communities.
Prior to joining NACHC, Marc worked on two statewide election campaigns in Georgia and on Capitol Hill and as the Director of State Operations for United States Senator Wyche Fowler (D-GA). After leaving the Senator’s staff, Marc founded and ran Georgia Citizen Action, a grass roots health, consumer and environmental advocacy organization that had over 15,000 members. He then served for eight years as Southern Regional Director for national Citizen Action, overseeing grassroots advocacy and organizing campaigns in seven southern states.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, Marc grew up in Augusta, Georgia and earned a B.E. in Chemical Engineering from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the University of Virginia. He and wife, Rebecca, live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
